She is so smart
— show them what you know —
she can read and count,
she can think, and speak,
and make us proud,
what stupidity,
to take this on
a job for life,
willingly,
so smart, and sad.
This rare a happy day
Must be enjoyed and savoured
"This is the day
the Lord made,
Let's rejoice
and be happy in it "
whether he did or not,
I am.
Remember when you were a kid
and we went to visit
the house at no 53,
you asked where is it
when we got past 52,
because you could see
it said 54
on the door,
and then you said
(because you knew your counting)
"that's odd "
and I said
"dear oh dear,
no, that's even,
the odd one's
on the other side of
the street "
thanks for not asking why,
and please don't cry.
