What do you want me to do

What do you want me to do,
write you a love letter?
who writes letters today, anyway?
I'd probably be embarrassed
and go cynical on page two
(embarrassing you, too).
Think of some smirching kids
laughing "and here, listen to this,
now she writes "I love you
more than my life, you're my bliss "
I am thinking how yesterdays
have turned so much lust into dust
those endless letters of love
yellowing, banal, stupid and lame,
no, I can't do it now,
it's all written here somewhere, shut
I like it this way, go on, blame.

Intricate Designs

The intricate designs
replicated symmetrically
on all four sides
give reassurance
even if diametrically opposed.
Simple order and complexity
can co-exist in harmony,
cornered, or not.

Time has gone by

Time has gone by so fast
year after year
season to season
January to December
month in month out
Monday to Sunday
morning to evening
hour to hour
moment to moment.
It all adds up, she said,
save the pennies
and the dimes will
take care of themselves.
Good idea, the pennies will last.
